Live Blogging from Cubs Convention 2011 – Friday
Jeremy is at the Cubs Convention this weekend and providing updates via our Twitter account. We will post his tweets to the site for those of you that reject Twitter.
3:30 pm – Welcome to the 2011 Chicago Cubs Convention.
3:38 pm – Greg Maddux has pulled out of the convention. A replacement is expected soon.
4:04 pm – I won an Aramis Ramirez autograph.
4:25 pm – Hey Jody Davis…oops sorry random old guy.
4:37 pm – Hour and 20 minutes in. 140 dollars down. Time for the first adult beverage.
4:50 pm – Doug Glanville… Really??? Have a captain and coke. It’s only ten dollars.
5:13 pm – First Woo-Woo encounter. Opening Ceremonies in 2 minutes
5:23 pm – Moment of silence for phil and ron. Now introductions. The crowd loves the Sarge. I love Bill Buckner.
5:32 pm – It appears we have 3 guys left in our farm system. On the bright side Matt Garza is here.
5:35 pm – Marlon Byrd gets a huge ovation. Well deserved!
5:36 pm – Castro love trumps Byrd.
5:38 pm – Koyie Hill throws out some Sammy esque kisses to the crowd.
5:42 pm – OMG Carlos Silva ate Blake Dewitt.
5:44 pm – Z gets the biggest cheer. A few boos ZZZZZ….
5:45 pm – Last but not least Kerry Wood and the crowd goes wild. Kerry throws out the first pitch into the crowd.
5:48 pm – Breaking news: Kerry Wood has injured his ACL, PCL, MCL, and Rotator Cuff throwing out the first pitch
5:56 pm – Go Cubs Go… It appears this is what Chicago has been waiting for.
6:05 pm – It’s chaos as the autograph treasure hunt begins. My first surprise is Lee Smith.
6:48 pm – Things have cooled as the autograph hunt/session is coming to an end. Waiting on Randy Hundley now.
6:57 pm – Drunk guy screams “ahh Biiiill Buuckkner” in his autograph line. It is hard to see who is sitting at each table. Poor Billy Buck.
7:05 pm – Just donated to and signed up for the Big Z foundation. They are doing good things.
7:31 pm – Smith, Buckner, Pappas, Jenkins, Walker, Carpenter, Trout, Pena, G. Perry, Beckert, among those who signed. Cubs bingo rolling now.
7:37 pm – Great prizes for Cubs bingo. Game worn jersys, flags from wrigley, etc.
7:39 pm – Soriano jersey brings loud boos.
7:43 pm – See you in the morning Cub fans.
