Matt Murton
A few months ago, I noticed that Matt Murton was playing in Japan. He’s playing outfield for the Hanshin Tigers in the Central League of Nippon Professional Baseball. The Rockies sold Murton’s rights to the Japanese team in December. Murton would have been arbitration-eligible after batting .324/.389/.499 in Triple A in 2009. He did [...]

In the last few years, I have not hidden my love for Matt Murton. It dawned on me tonight that I hadn’t checked up on him since the end of last season. From April – October, “Matt Murton” may be my most Google’d term on this computer. I start at his Wikipedia page and plan [...]

The AAA All-Star Game will be on ESPN2 tonight and I’ll surely be watching. Matt Murton earned a spot on the PCL All-Star team. Chris Robinson, the catcher for the Iowa Cubs will be representing the team. Another name worth noting is Eric Patterson, who will be playing in the game for the Oakland AAA [...]

I completely missed this news and I’d like to thank Kevin for the e-mail, alerting me. Matt Murton was called up to the Rockies from AAA Colorado Springs. Murton was batting .411 with four homeruns, six doubles and 19 RBI’s in 18 games. Matt has also stolen five bases. I’m really [...]

My favorite ex-Cub, Matt Murton was dealt a heavy blow this evening as the Colorado Rockies optioned him to Triple A Colorado Springs. That’s pretty surprising considering Murton was hitting .302 with 2 HR’s in Spring Training. Ex-White Sox Scott Podsednik and his .217 still has a spot on the roster, though.
Hang in there, my [...]

Before I gush over Matt Murton, let me just say that I feel rattled staring at my first substantive post in months in the eyes. It’s the same feeling I got when we first started up Ivy Envy. I’m an awkward virgin teenager fumbling with the bra-straps of the blogging world.
I want to thank all [...]

It’s taken me a few days to come to terms with the fact that Matt Murton is no longer a member of the Chicago Cubs. Although I knew it was going to happen, I didn’t expect it to happen this early in July. It’s hard to put your feelings into words when things like this [...]

In a move designed to keep all bugeaters in Nebraska and California, the Cubs have shipped Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, and Josh Donaldson off to Oakland for Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin.
Either someone at MLB.com is a Photoshop champ, or Gallagher’s “bring me a bowl of Life Cereal” grin was no one-time [...]

I won’t brag about every Jeff Samardzija accomplishment on Ivy Envy. Let’s be clear, my man-crush is on Matt Murton. But I have never owned any Cubs shirt/jersey with a name on the back and when Jeff Samardzija makes it to the Cubs and is issued a number, I will own one. I almost feel [...]

Traveling across the river to watch the fireworks in Bettendorf threw a monkey wrench into our typical Cubs-viewing routine. We had to discontinue our television viewing just after Edmonds received his standing ovation from the St. Louis crowd before his first at-bat (ho-hum). A small, portable radio informed us of Soto’s hardball home run as [...]
