My favorite ex-Cub, Matt Murton was dealt a heavy blow this evening as the Colorado Rockies optioned him to Triple A Colorado Springs. That’s pretty surprising considering Murton was hitting .302 with 2 HR’s in Spring Training. Ex-White Sox Scott Podsednik and his .217 still has a spot on the roster, though.
Hang in there, my [...]

I can’t express how pleased I am that I won’t see Paul Bako wearing Cubby Blue this season. I won’t have to experience the pain of watching him walk to the plate as essentially a guaranteed out. Forget Bartman and the team meltdown in 2003, I’ll never forget that feeling everytime I saw [...]

The folks over at Wasting Away in Wrigleyville have started a weekly bloggers rountable. It’s a really cool idea and I’m honored that they asked me to participate. Definitely go over there and check it out.
The first edition poses this question:
With Opening Day approaching, everyone in the Cubs blogosphere is making their predictions for 2009. [...]

The television show 30 clubs in 30 days on the MLB Network chose Sammy Sosa as right fielder in the all-time Cubs team. Thoughts? There were also some uncontroversial picks. Among the ones I remember: Sandberg, Grace, Banks, Santo.
I should just come clean and admit right now that I never liked Sammy Sosa. I pulled [...]

I’ll admit that six weeks ago, I could not wait for Spring Training to begin. I can’t stand NBA basketball and just don’t follow the NFL or College Basketball closely. So when College Football ends, I’m ready for Spring Training. Throughout January and February, all I can think about is baseball starting up.
So now, about [...]

I couldn’t resist titling this post with a bad sports page headline. I also can’t resist analyzing a few stats of spring training. It’s been exactly one month and I’ve been holding off, telling myself “it’s just spring training, don’t get too caught up in stats”. But I have to share my delight in the [...]

Corey, Andy, Kurt and Paul get together to break-down the NL Central. Paul also talks about his recent trip to Mesa for Spring Training.
The improved sound quality is reason enough to listen to this episode. Thanks to Jason for stepping in and taking over the recording aspect.

Yesterday, Sean Marshall pitched five strong innings in the Cubs’ 13-2 victory over the White Sox. It is nice to beat the Sox any time, but like I’ve said before, I don’t give much credence to preseason games. It was nice to see some of the strong performances, however.
-Our 5th man Marshall seems to be [...]

Derrek Lee declined an opportunity to play for team USA yesterday, and his decision angered the anonymous internet commenting community. One commenter voiced his/her anger toward Lee’s decision saying, “Somethings in this world are important enough to take risk on ypour country needs you.” The beautiful thing about commenting under the name “commenter” is that [...]

It’s high time we had a preseason report on the G-R-E-double-G. Even though he’s not “mobbin’” with Dre, he is having a good spring. Our new favorite bespectacled Cub has five scoreless innings pitched, giving up only two hits and striking out five. He has made a strong case for the closer spot, and in [...]
