It’s official. The Cubs have finally traded first baseman Derrek Lee to the Atlanta Braves for three pitching prospects. (The title of this post is supposed to be an Alice in Chains reference if you hadn’t caught that)
In the deal, the Cubs received two right handers, Robinson Lopez, 19, and Tyrelle Harris, 23, and one left hander, Jeffrey [...]

Even though the Cubs lost last night, I’ll be damned if they aren’t playing some entertaining baseball right now. I know the D-backs are terrible, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve still just had fun watching the Cubs play baseball, and watching the Diamondbacks play makes me feel a little better about the Cubs. On one [...]

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending the first game of the Cubs-Angels series yesterday. The Miller Lite billboard beyond right field read, “Welcome to baseball heaven.” After watching the horrible defensive play of the Cubs yesterday (and really for a while now), I’m not ready to come to the conclusion that heaven [...]

The Cubs came through last night with a 3-0 victory over the Dodgers. Kershaw is a tough pitcher and looked pretty sharp last night. Fortunately, Rafael Furcal’s defense didn’t. Kershaw only gave up one unearned run due to a Furcal error, and Lee’s 2-run homer was off the bullpen. Dempster was his usual self last [...]

Starlin Castro became the first player in Major League Baseball history to drive in 6 runs in their debut game. So much for Cubs fans having realistic expectations for Castro. With his performance tonight, he made realistic expectations anything but possible.
Less than 12 hours from waking up to a phone call telling him [...]

Derrek Lee had another sub-par April this year. It was pretty remarkable how much I heard “He’ll be ok. He always starts off slow in April.” That’s what most logical Cubs fans were saying in April and May of 2009. There were many Cubs fans ready to jump the Derrek Lee [...]

So far this team has been difficult to watch (as they always are), but there are some encouraging aspects we can hold on to while our hearts palpitate about the rest.
-I’m starting to feel fairly confident in the starting rotation. Dempster and Wells had great outings, and Zambrano looked a lot better yesterday. Dempster had [...]

Major League Baseball threw a big party today with signings all over the place. I’m assuming it was to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of the Bears winning the Super Bowl.
The Cubs finally named their 4th outfielder – Xavier Nady. I’m sure Cubs fans are already brainstorming nicknames based around the letter “X”. [...]

There hasn’t been much going on with the Cubs to pull me out of my blogging hibernation. I hope you can forgive us for the lack of activity on Ivy Envy. As a Cubs fan, I’m sure you can understand the need to take a little time off from our boys in blue. It’s good [...]

A little less than a month ago, I shared what I considered to be the scariest stat of the 2009 season. It’s only gotten worse for Miles. He has played in about half of the Cubs games this year, 64 games. Before this season, Miles was averaging about 34 RBI’s in a season and his [...]
